Why are nearly half the people in Ohio’s homeless system black when African-Americans make up only 12 percent of the state’s population? COHHIO recently organized a series of meetings to discuss the factors behind this uncomfortable truth and what we can do about it.
With support from the Ohio Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services, we partnered with C4 Innovations to host three events around Ohio that brought together more than 100 local officials, homeless and housing providers and advocates to discuss racial disparities and homelessness. These convenings will serve as the first step to our broader effort to address the inequities in our system.
