The Ohio Housing Trust Fund (OHTF) is the primary source of state funding for affordable housing opportunities and improves housing conditions for low-income families throughout Ohio. During the Fiscal Year 2026-27 budget process, the legislature considered a plan that would have gutted the OHTF, but concerted advocacy successfully restored it in the final budget bill (HB 96). Rather than weakening the OHTF, the state needs to safeguard the future of the Trust Fund as fee revenues have diminished in recent years while needs have increased significantly.
Renters facing eviction who are not aware of their legal rights face the possibility of not only being left with nowhere to live, but the stigma of having a legal and financial record that shows they have been evicted. Tenant screening processes have become riddled with outdated and innaccurate records that automatically reject applicants, even if the tenant won the case, causing difficulty securing new housing for years into the future.
