• Home Ownership and Mortgage Equity:
  Emergency Home Ownership and Mortgage Equity Protection Act of 2007 The House will be considering H.R. 3609, legislation that will give bankruptcy judges the authorization to modify mortgage loans to help make loan payments more manageable and help struggling homeowners stay in their homes. • SCHIP:
  SCHIP Expansion Bill Summary The U.S. House and Senate have again passed an SCHIP bill that would provide an additional $35 billion over 5 years for the State Children’s Health Insurance Program. The new version of the SCHIP bill would continue to cover approximately 4 million uninsured children, at a cost of about $35 billion over five years, fully offset by an increase in federal tobacco taxes. President Bush has threatened to veto the SCHIP expansion bill again. PDF
  
• Farm Bill:
  2007 Farm Bill Summary The U.S. House has passed its version of the 2007 Farm Bill which includes increased funding for the Food Stamp Program and The Emergency Food Assistance Program (TEFAP). The Senate Agriculture committee has also passed a version of the bill providing $4.2 billion of improvements to the nutrition title. Debate begins in the Senate on amendments to the bill. PDF
  
• VA Appropriations:
  Labor-HHS-Education & Military Construction-Veterans Affairs Appropriations U.S. House and Senate conferees have been working on creation of a final appropriations bill that would “bundle” together the Labor-HHS-Education bill and the Military Construction-VA bill. The bill will be voted on in the House shortly and in the Senate soon thereafter. PDF
